A Rohingya rickshaw puller was mercilessly assaulted by Myanmar army member in Untaw Gyi refugee camp, Sittwe on 20 March 2017.
The victim was known as Ilias (36) son of Abul Kasim of Untaw Gyi IDP camp, Sittwe.
Ilias who is a rickshaw puller by his profession was stopped and assaulted severely to unconscious state on the road by a member of army while he was pulling the rickshaw.
He got serious injury on his head by assault of army and was hospitalized for treatment.
Source said the victim was pulling the rickshaw by his side and the member of army was coming by a car by his side also.
However, the army personal suddenly halted the rickshaw puller and beat him mercilessly on the road. When the army person left the scene, the relatives of the victim rushed to the spot and brought the injured home in unconscious state.
Later, he was again hospitalized for treatment for his injury in, source added.
Physical assault by members of army and BGP on Rohingya people in Sittwe is common, said another Rohingya.
